Total Wine announces opening in Wilmington

WILMINGTON Wine lovers are sure to flock to Renaissance Market on Military Cutoff Road later in the month when retail giant Total Wine makes its Wilmington debut.

The grand opening is scheduled for June 30th to celebrate the 13th Superstore opening in North Carolina. VIP attendees get a little foretaste of the day before when the ribbon was cut.

Store Manager Dawn Ward said opening activities are planned throughout the weekend, including local wineries and on-site breweries offering tastings. Details of the daily events are yet to be confirmed.

Between 20 and 30 staff will be on the payroll year-round, with additional seasonal workers in the peak summer months, Ward added.

Founded in Delaware in 1991 as the brainchild of brothers David and Robert Trone, Total Wine operates more than 230 stores across the country. Prior to this store, Myrtle Beach was the closest store to Wilmington and opened in 2019.

Formerly Earth Fare, the 22,700-square-foot event space has undergone a complete remodel, including demolition of existing walls and ceilings and upgrading of lighting. The contractors also built walk-in coolers and a humidor for cigars and tobacco products.

The first red flag was when I placed an order and the shipping name with the recipient address was mine. So I canceled 3 orders and ordered new ones. The next red flag was in Colorado, there is no way to add a message/salute to the delivery. In Arizona and California, there is an option to do this because the delivery is handled by a third party. I later learned that this third party is either GrubHub or Door Dash. The next red flag was that one of the wines I ordered was out of stock. Instead of canceling the entire order, they presented me with a $4.00 corkscrew along with $16.95 in tax, tip, and shipping. Did I know when I canceled the orders? how incredibly difficult it would be to match the order, I wouldn't have done it. If an order is cancelled, Total Wine will cancel each of the following orders separately. Alcohol order along with tax, then tip, then delivery fee. So you have three different fees. All I can say about Total Wine is put some money into your website in times of COVID to make delivery easier for the customer!
